My Experience AFTER the Hunt

Deer Season has almost come and gone and I have experienced parts of the hunting experience. I went hunting with my guide, learned what it was like to sit in the woods and wait for that deer, and then I had the great opportunity to experience what happens after the kill compliments of my [...]

Success in the Hunting Woods….

Yes, I had success in the hunting woods; Gibson the Guide DID NOT kill me. Folks Gibson has to be the most patient man out there, because if I were in his shoes I would have left me standing. I am one sad situation, but I swear it is only my lack of [...]

Lost in the Woods, Looking for Deer

Today I officially fell in love with hunting….I know you avid hunters knew it would happen, but probably not for the same reasons you love hunting. My love for hunting came from getting lost in the woods, walking circles to only notice we passed the same tree a three times, and lots of giggles. [...]

Today, I had success I bought a HAT. I know I am silly, but I am not [...]

MDC seeks hunter help with CWD surveillance Nov. 13-14.)
As part of it ongoing efforts to monitor Missouri’s free-ranging deer for chronic wasting disease (CWD), the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is asking hunters [...]

Worries misplaced; deer season issue fully loaded

I was a little worried as the November deadline drew near. It didn’t seem to me that our writers had submitted the usual number of good deer hunting stories and I hadn’t contacted Al Agnew about a cover illustration.
One night I woke up in a sweat — how could we have a deer issue without [...]

Antlerless deer season changes hard on muzzle loading hunters, says “redneck from Park Hills”

Dear Emery,
I would like to comment on the specific change of moving the antlerless portion around to replace the portion of the muzzle loading season. I don’t understand completely what the switch of these two portions of the deer season accomplish?
For years now the MDC has tried to gear the season toward the [...]

Steady rainfall that soaked much of Missouri on Sunday contributed to a drop in the number of deer taken during the opening weekend of the November deer season.
Hunters checked 86,202 deer during the first weekend of the November Portion of Firearms Deer Season, Nov. 14 through 24. That is 12 percent fewer than last year.
