Ozark Riverways joins no open fires for the Fourth
Ozark National Scenic Riverways Issues Immediate
Ban on Open Fires in the Park
Van Buren, MO – Due to the unusually hot and dry conditions that have persisted throughout the region, Ozark National Scenic Riverways has issued an immediate ban on open fires within the park. The fire ban prohibits all campfires and other open fires, including those in pedestal charcoal grills. The ban does allow the use of camp stoves and grills with lids. Please ensure that charcoal is cold before disposal. The use of fireworks continues to be prohibited in the park.
The fire ban is an effort to prevent wildfires and will be in effect until further notice. This ban is in accordance with 36 CFR 2.13 (c) which provides the park superintendent with the authority to implement fire bans during periods of high fire danger. Numerous counties and communities have also issued fire bans, as well as agencies such the U.S. Forest Service, Missouri Department of Conservation, and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
