Mistrial declared over Current River trial jury selection
Circuit Judge David Evans declared a mistrial June 24 in the case of Radeena Proffer, scheduled to stand trial for charges related to a Ripley County boating accident on the Current River last year which resulted in the deaths of two people and injury to three others.
The trial had been moved from Doniphan to Van Buren on a change of venue. The mistrial occurred on the day of jury selection when the potential jury pool of 120 had been reduced to 36 before defense questioning began, according to online reports.
The 28-year-old is to stand trial on two Class C felonies of involuntary manslaughter with a vessel, three Class D felonies of second-degree assault with a vessel and the Class C felony of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
The incident happened July 5, 2009 near Worley’s Rock.
