Let Missouri’s big cats live, say poll respondents

Here the tally from our poll on Missouri Senate Bill 738, allowing for killing of mountain lions without a threat present. The overwhelming view among 33

respondents was “No. Leave things as they are” with 85%, 28 votes.
“Yes. We need to be able to kill them” got 9%, 3 votes. “I’m not sure” got 1 vote, as did “There ain’t no mountain lions round here, so it’s not needed.”

That poll closed Feb. 10. Watch for a new poll starting today on proposed legislation to alter the structure of the Missouri Conservation Commission.

I would have voted KILL EM!

In response to TC’s comment, “I
would have voted KILL EM!,”…Why? You do not even bother to explain why mountain lions should be killed. Did a mountain lion do something to you or someone you know? And if one did do something does that mean that all of them deserve your wrath? Did a mountain lion take one of your pigs or a calf or a fawn (now) that you would have shot at next deer season (and probably missed because you can’t see past your own ego)? Are mountain lions out to get YOU personally? Maybe it is your fear of something that you perceive to be more capable than yourself to survive in the wild that intimidates you? Please, explain the reason for your vote. We would all be interested in your superiority over mountain lions. Surely your earthly existence is greater than that of ALL other creatures on this planet. Respond so that we can all be enlightened by you…please!

Let ‘em be. I’d like to see one.

Big cats are natural predators and they don’t know the difference between a deer, your family pet or your neighbors kid. If big cats are getting nearer human populations as was evidenced in Chesterfield sooner or later they will take human life. Its their natural instinct to feed. “I want to see one” – how truly foolish.

In response to Dr. Tony Kalna’s comment…

“Its (It’s) their natural instinct to feed.” I am assuming you mean that it is their natural instinct to (eat). Can you tell us, of all the living creatures on this planet, which ones there are that do not have an instinct (need) to eat? If I recall from basic biology classes, all living creatures have the need (not instinct) to eat in order to survive. I would assume you (Dr. Tony Kalna) have a need to eat to survive…should we consider you a predator, and thusly should you suffer the consequences of being a “predator” as you think predators should receive?
