Archery deer/turkey season opens Sept. 15
Hunters are already no doubt aware that fall archery deer/turkey season runs Sept. 15 to Nov. 13 and Nov. 25 to Jan. 15, 2010 and of the many rules and regulations pertaining thereto.
It’s also time for other woods users, whether they be birders, hikers, photographers, sightseers or just plain tourists to break out the blaze orange, neon green, hot pink, no-trespass purple/magenta and screaming yellow clothing.
While archers usually must shoot at closer range than firearms hunters, and are much less likely to mistake humans in the woods for game, it never hurts to have an added survival advantage. Wearing turkey colors: (black, white, or a just a flash of red or blue), or those of white-tailed deer (brown, tan, white) is a simple thing to avoid in the fall.
A particularly obnoxious combination called California camo (60s neon colors in a camo pattern) will distinguish you from being prey or fashion-conscious at the same time.
Hunters and non-hunters alike: be safe out there!
